Is Today the Day We See the Judge and He Will Say We Can Keep Ben Forever?

For every training, meeting, court date, etc...the kids couldn't come with us. We told Jake he could come when it was time to see the judge who would tell us we could keep Ben forever. We have been telling him this for 2 years. Well, yesterday he finally got to come with us. He had a countdown he started 7 days ago. He updated it every morning.
The day finally arrived
I had no idea what to expect once we got to the courthouse. I was a tad nervous since I had no idea what I was doing but it was all over in about 5 minutes and then we ate lunch :).
Waiting our turn. I promise Ben wants to live with us.
A little intimidated by the lawyers and judge.
I look useless. I'm not allowed to pick up things bigger than 10 lbs...including children.
We had a serious group with us.
Leaving court for the last time.
Ever since we started this process about 2 years ago people ask me what I have learned. Well, I'm not a super deep thinker/contemplater but one thing that stood out to me from early on was that God prepares. He says over and over to take care of the orphans. So when we decide to obey He isn't like, 'Thanks for obeying. I heard CPS is difficult. Good luck with that.' He prepared out hearts, minds, finances, etc... for this process before we even knew we should be thinking about it. He got us on the same page before we knew there was a page. It was like he was just waiting for us to begin the first step and He started paving the way. Opening big, obvious doors. It was as smooth a process as it could have been but we are relieved it is over. Our walls are now evacuation route free. Also, a spontaneous road trip is in our near future. Waiting a week to see if we can go to Rett's parents for the weekend is overrated.

  1. I am so proud of you guys and really thankful for God's preparation. What a blessing you are to me! Congratulations!

  2. Congratulations!! Beautiful family.
